About
Artist Statement
Chrilz is a figurative drawer working in a blend between Neo-figurative and Neo-expressionism, utilizing the human form as a vessel of expression. His primary focus is human nature within the context of emotions, relationships, and lived experiences. It is the culmination of life unfolding that fuels his need to create. All of his work is a dance between the emotional and conceptual. In every piece, all elements are composed with intentionality, thus becoming an aggregate of choices and decisions that seek to serve a final, conceptual-emotional dichotomy to enrapture his viewers. Across any piece, series, or body of work is a rich tapestry of layers meant to resonate with individuals across the human experience. Whether it is a complete concept or the subtlety of a gentle emotion, he is constantly concerned with sharing the beautiful truths of life itself.
Through colored pencils and graphite, Chrilz employs color, imagery, words, and realism in tandem with the human form to produce his work. Since intent is paramount, the visual means he employs is always in service towards some greater end. He considers his process as a living machine, with input received from his life and the lives of others becoming synthesized through his being to then culminate in a tangible, visual creation. Thus, it is the integration of his existence within the greater narrative of human existence that serves as a catalyst for his entire oeuvre. JMJR.
Chrilz is a practicing Catholic who earnestly pursues this artistic career as a self-offering in the spirit of Luke 17:10.
"So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
His journey is devoted to the miraculous intercession of St. Rita of Cascia and the patronage of St. Joseph.
