a body of work
Embodying the position of Main Act XI, The Labyrinth stands as the next major movement in the Cruel Summer body of work. Something has broken following the Ten-Act dance, and permanently. A body of work predicated upon desires and designs has moved in real time with its creator—and this creator has discovered the consequences. His machinations failed in relation to their intended outcome, yet they have succeeded in elucidating something more pressing. Cruel Summer now transforms from an artist’s scheme for survival to an artist’s confession of the twisted psyche such scheming has engendered.
Here in Main Act XI, the artist inhabits a future whose fruits have been forged upon the choices made in the twenty-two-month charade preceding it. The financial struggle has broken him. This fraught, calculated timeline has revealed sinister truths. Thus, the monster with which he now contends is one that breathes his very breath. Within the artist’s mind are the insufferable, perceived constructs that this body of work has illuminated, and then subsequently entrenched more severely. Cruel Summer wreaked havoc upon his psyche—and yet, his own hand is to blame. The Labyrinth is a winding, grieving, and violent journey of earnest transparency in which the primary target lurking around every corner is one that preceded the entire charade from its start: his ego.
